Governor Tomblin has appointed Mike Riley, Assistant Commissioner of Insurance Regulation, to serve as Acting Insurance Commissioner, effective July 1, 2011, to fill the vacancy created by Commissioner Jane Cline’s June 30 retirement.
Mike Riley first joined the Offices of the Insurance Commissioner in October 2001 as an Administrative Services Manager and rose to become Assistant Commissioner of Regulation. During his tenure, Mike served as project manager for the privatization of the state's workers' compensation system. He recently served with Jill Bentz on the Funding Subcommittee of the Task Force designed to address workers’ compensation issues and volunteer fire departments.
Mike is a graduate of Marshall University with a Masters of Business Administration and an undergraduate degree of Business Administration in finance. Mike and his wife, Denise, reside in Charleston with their daughters, Addison and Sarah.
